Our English Literature and Academic Tutors in LA are:

Jeremy: LA Area

I pursued a BA in History at New York University where I was mentored by the historian Linda Gordon. My dissertation explored the small, but effective, anti-war movement by American soldiers stationed in Vietnam. I was graduated in 2005 and became the assistant to Professor Carla Peterson adding substantial research to her excellent memoir, "Black Gotham: A Family History of African Americans in Nineteenth Century New York City." After working for Professor Peterson, I assisted The American History Workshop during the development of the cutting-edge exhibition, "Slavery in New York" at the New York Historical Society. I am an award-winning screenwriter/film director; my latest film screened this year to great acclaim in seven film festivals in New York, Fort Lauderdale, Chicago, London and Los Angeles. I am passionate about building student confidence and improving scores in the areas of SAT/ACT verbal, college-application essays, English Language Arts, and History. My test prep skills were honed over the past five years, beginning as a teacher at the Harlem Children Zone (a bold charter school in New York City), continuing as a specialist at The Huntington Learning Center in Manhattan's Upper East Side, and culminating, here in Los Angeles, as part of the terrific Strommen Tutoring team.

Sharon: available in Silver lake, Los Feliz, Hollywood and Los Angeles Area

Sharon Yablon has a BA in English from the University of California. She was also awarded a creative writing scholarship to UCLA, and has garnered other nominations for her plays. She has taught creative writing in the UCLA Writer’s Program and was an adjunct writing professor at Antioch University. She has tutored English and writing for 10 years, and has been a professional writer for 15 years, having written and directed over 20 plays in LA. Her writing (fiction and plays) have been published, most recently in the 2008 Anthology of Best One Acts Plays and Puerto Del Sol.

Joe - available in the Valley, North Hollywood, West Side, and the greater Los Angeles area

I graduated in 2005 Magna Cum Laude with a double Major from CU Boulder, I have always been active in academic competitions (in college I was on the team for two state-championship seasons) and scored a perfect 800 on the verbal when I took my SATS. With my approach your son or daughter will gain confidence and look forward to their success as they see their grades linearly increase.
